mONTHLY CRIME SUBSCRIPTION BOX FEBRUARY 2020 THEME

We chose the theme ‘Perfectly impossible’ because this is a howdunnit as well as a whodunnit.

The theme for our next monthly box is 'An Invitation To Die For...'

One thing I love about Sophie’s work is that the investigator in many of her novels, including this one, is not a detective or formal investigator but an everyday person who finds themselves compelled to delve into a mystery.

When I think of impossible mysteries I can’t help but think of authors like Agatha Christie and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle who first brought these kind of mysteries to popularity and this is where I’ve taken my inspiration for the goodies to complement your book.

One of my favourite artisans to collaborate with is Danielle at Bookworm Candles & Crafts because we always seem to be on the same page. When I told her the book and the theme her first thoughts were of Agatha Christie and we quickly got into a discussion about locked-room mysteries and golden age authors such as Marjory Allingham and Dorothy L Sayers.

Danielle has created this exclusive candle for us named Mystery Impossible with a gorgeous citrus fresh scent inspired by the glamour of the 1920s and 1930s.

Sophie Hannah has also written three Hercule Poirot novels with the permission of the Agatha Christie estate and I am really excited to bring you this lovely Art Deco style pocket mirror. It was designed and printed in Yorkshire and is perfect for applying lipstick, checking on a neatly waxed Poirot-style moustache or subtly looking over your shoulder at potential suspects...

The pair of Shelock Holmes and Dr Watson inspired postcards are also exclusive and are a fun addition. They reference both the original Victorian Sherlock Holmes and also the more modern incarnations. Television adaptations such as the BBC’s Sherlock starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman see these classics continuing to be popular over 120 years after they were first published.
